JUMP FOR THE JUNIPER!
The fourth grade students at Summit Elementary would like to invite you to join our quest to change the Utah State Tree! The current State Tree is the Blue Spruce. The students at Summit School feel the Utah Juniper is a tree that better represents our state! The Utah Juniper is deeply ingrained in Utah's history and geography. It is wide spread throughout the state and is found in all of our National Parks.
Fourth grade students in the past have initiated bills to change some of the state symbols. We want you to take part in this historic change by getting excited and sending letters, emails or phone calls to your respective Representatives. Their names and addresses can be found at this web site: http://www.utah.gov/government/legislative.html The students may also join in the activities and opportunities posted on this blog and in the packets they will recieve by mail to their schools.
The fourth grade students can have a wonderful experience seeing how the government works and how they can make a difference.

That tree reminds me of the first pioneers who came to Utah, growing and succeeding in an area where few others would venture to try. What a great symbol for the state.
